The Spiritual Walk: Personal Narratives of Faithful Habits

Randall Roach

When I look back over my life, there have been different habits at different times that have helped me along my spiritual journey and growth.

At one point in my life, I was unemployed for an extended period of time. I would get up, see my wife off to work, and later take my son to school. Then, when I would come home, I would take the dogs for a walk, work out, read my Bible, and journal. I remember lying on the floor with my Bible, pen, and paper with music going sometimes, but most times just me and the quiet. It was good to see how God answered prayers later as I looked back. I could physically see him working and had reminders of the things that He had done both big and little over time.

Later, it was the men’s early morning Bible studies. Just being around men of faith and studying God's word with multiple perspectives, a few good, we’ll call them disagreements, on what something meant or referred to. That group of men pushed, challenged, and encouraged me all along the way. I have been involved with several men and adult groups across the years.

Many times, my routine is just sitting and digging into God's word with prayer and quiet. Like many, the quiet is hard. My mind wanders to all the things that need to get done, what the day looks like, and dozing off.

Reading other books has also had a large impact on my spiritual growth. Books bring up ideas and perspectives that I had not thought of before and challenge me. If one book refers to another on a similar topic, then I would go read that one, too. I would begin to look for things that God was doing in the area I was studying similar to when you are looking to purchase something and all of a sudden that item is everywhere.

As the weather warms back up, I return to my morning runs, also filled with prayer. Yes, even there, God answers.

These practices and habits have all had their place in time, and none of them seemed to work forever, so my routine changes back and forth. It seems no matter what I was doing, God would meet me there. Really that is what He is looking for: a relationship.

RICHARD'S SABBATICAL

We try to give our full-time ministers an opportunity to recharge physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually every five years or so. With that in mind, we want to remind everyone that Richard Hamilton will be starting his sabbatical this week, and he will be gone for the month of March. Would you do two things during this time? First, please pray that he can recharge during this sabbatical; and second, please join us in being intentional about not contacting him for any reason so that he can truly unplug and recharge. If you need anything while Richard is out, here are some contacts:

POETRY WITH PURPOSE

Tonight at 7:00 p.m., we will be hosting Poetry with Purpose, a spoken word poetry event raising funds for our ministry partner, Acts of Hope. Several of our young people have been working on this special event. We hope you can make it, not only to support them, but also our ministry partner, Acts of Hope, which is making a big difference in our community.

LAST SUPPER EXPERIENCE

One of the most famous scenes from Jesus' life is the Last Supper. Just before his death and resurrection, Jesus gathered with his closest friends and followers to celebrate the Passover, a religious festival with deep significance. On March 28 at 6:30 p.m., we will come together to eat, learn, pray and worship as we experience the Last Supper.

Email ronnie@chccsa.com for more info.

EASTER SERVICES
On Easter Sunday, we will reflect on the resurrection of Jesus and how it makes an impact on almost every aspect of our lives. Using Matthew 28 as our central text, we’ll celebrate the fact that Jesus can help us conquer every fear. Join us for one of our two services: 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.

In addition to not having any 9:00 a.m. classes, this Sunday is also a Family Sunday. Our nursery for infants and toddlers 2 or younger will be open but all other ages will worship together in the Worship Building. Don't forget to pick up some activities for the kids on your way in.
EASTER EGG HUNT AND BREAKFAST
We will be having an Easter Egg Hunt and breakfast on March 31st at 9:00 a.m. No matter which service time you choose to attend that Sunday, feel free to enjoy some food and fun.

We are still accepting donations of individually wrapped candy for our Easter Egg Hunt. Please bring your donations to the church on Sunday morning or any time the office is open.

GLOW IN THE DARK: A Series from the Gospels on Easter.

SERIES OVERVIEW:
In the dark, a world of neon colors comes to life. Whether it’s the soft green of glow-in-the-dark stars or the bright colors of bioluminescent creatures, light can break through the darkness. When the world needed some light, God sent Jesus because he glows in the dark, and he can teach us how to shine with God’s light, too! In this series through the Gospels, we’ll follow Jesus’ life leading up to Easter to see some of the ways he can shine bright in our lives. As we explore, we’ll see Jesus is the light in the darkness. We’ll also learn how we can choose Jesus and know God hears our cries while celebrating how Jesus died and rose again!

MISSION SPOTLIGHT: CENTRAL INDIA CHRISTAN MISSION
Ronnie Morgan

India is one of the most populous nations in the world. Nearly 1.2 billion people are crammed into a space that is one-third the size of the U.S. This population includes 2,533 separate people groups, and out of these people groups, 2,233 have never been exposed to the gospel.

Central India Christian Mission is an indigenously led ministry that strategically serves in Southern Asia. Since its founding in 1982, the poor and destitute have been fed, clothed, and given medical care. Churches have been planted, leaders have been mentored, disciples taught, and communities transformed by the gospel lived out by thousands of selfless Christ-followers. Since CICM was founded, seven orphanages have been started, which care for 1,200 children, including 135 children with special needs. Since 1982, CICM has baptized more than 400,000 people and established nearly 1,400 churches. CHCC has been a ministry partner to CICM for many years, and we are excited to continue that partnership.

On March 3, CICM will have a table in the lobby, and a representative will be preaching in our Spanish Service. If you would like to know more, please watch this video for an in-depth look at the ministry of CICM.
